WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange arrested in London

 

Whistleblower website Wikileaks founder Julian Assange gestures as he speaks about the US and the human rights during a press conference at the Geneva press club in Geneva, Switzerland. Assange was arrested Tuesday morning in London on rape charges from Sweden.


Wikileaks founder Assange, a 39-year-old Australian, was arrested by officers from Scotland Yard's extradition unit when he went to a central London police station by prior agreement with the authorities, the police said. A court hearing was expected later.

Nuclear negotiators say talks between Iran and six world powers have ended and a new round is planned early next year in Turkey. Officials say the talks will take place in late January or early February. They spoke at the end of two days of talks in Geneva between Iran and the six powers.

Truth always beauty some Democrats don't like it but President Barack Obama says it was a necessary concession. He agreed to a two-year extension of tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans, in order to get a compromise deal that includes continued tax breaks for all Americans, and additional benefits for long-term jobless. House and Senate Democratic leaders say they'll discuss the plan today.

Wikileaks founder Assange threat of further disclosures poses a problem for the Obama administration as it explores ways to prosecute Mr Assange or the group in relation to the archive of some 250,000 diplomatic cables it has obtained, reportedly from a low-ranking Army intelligence analyst.
